Olympia Stadium, Detroit

Olympia Stadium was a famous indoor arena in Detroit, Michigan. The arena, completed in 1927, seated close to 16,700 for ice hockey. It was hosted numerous important basketball and hockey matches over the years, as well as numerous political events and concerts. The arena was the home of the Detroit Red Wings from 1927-1979 and the Detroit Pistons from 1957-1961. Largely abandoned after the Red Wings moved to Joe Louis Arena, enticed by tax breaks intended to keep them from moving to Pontiac, Olympia Stadium largely lay dormant until being demolished in September, 1986.
