Super Bowl VII

Super Bowl VII took place on January 14, 1973 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.

The final result was Miami Dolphins 14, Washington Redskins 7.

The game was broadcast on NBC in the United States with Curt Gowdy and Al DeRogatis .

Attendance: 90,182

The game

The score indicates a much closer game than it actually was. Washington's offense was held completely in check by Miami's "No-Name Defense". The Redskins' only score came on a muffed field goal attempt, when Miami kicker Garo Yepremian, running for his life and attempting to pass, fumbled the ball into the hands of Washington defender Mike Bass, who ran the other way for a touchdown.

Otherwise, Miami, which had posted a 14-0 regular-season record, had no trouble putting the capstone on the first (and so far only) perfect season in NFL history.

Scoring summary

  • MIA- Twilley 28 pass from Griese (Yepremian kick)
  • MIA- Kiick 1 run (Yepremian kick)
  • WAS- Bass 49 fumble return
